Bite Me Cancer's mission is to fight cancer through inspiration, education and research. The main 2 goals are to support/inspire teenagers battling all cancers and to find better treatments and perhaps cures for the many types of thyroid cancer (some are aggressive, and the common treatment options don't work). Nikki's determination to support/inspire teenagers dealing with all kinds of cancer came from her own experience as a teenager diagnosed with cancer. Teens "fall through the cracks" between the younger pediatric and older adult programs. They need specialized support.
Nikki designed the Teen Support Bag to reach out to the teens to let them know they are not alone. The Teen Support Bags are delivered to teenagers in hospitals across the country while they undergo treatment. The Teen Support Bags include such items as an Amazon gift card, adult coloring book, stress ball, hat, journal, water bottle, game book and other age-appropriate items. As of December 2025, almost 14,500 teenagers have received our bag from every state in the US and DC at over 210 hospitals! Each bag currently costs the foundation $100 to order all the items and ship them. We also deliver dinners to the local children's hospital pediatric/oncology floor when appropriate.
Research is a critical piece of our mission. We partner with the American Thyroid Association (ATA), and they manage the grant process as well as the oversight on the actual research projects. We have directly funded eleven 2-year thyroid cancer research grants and are currently raising funds for our next grant. We talk directly with our research doctors and follow their progress. Often, we partner with ThyCa (Thyroid Cancer Survivors Association), splitting the payments.
